An example of the application of radar water level sensor in a small reservoir in a mountain area

The small reservoir is a multi-functional water conservancy project integrating flood control, irrigation and power generation, located in a mountain valley, with a reservoir capacity of about 5 million cubic meters and a maximum dam height of about 30 meters. In order to realize real-time monitoring and management of reservoir water level, radar water level sensor is used as the main water level measuring equipment.

The installation position of the radar water level sensor is above the dam crest bridge, and the distance from the highest liquid level is about 10 meters. The radar water level sensor is connected with the data acquisition instrument through RS485 interface, and the data acquisition instrument transmits the data to the remote monitoring center through 4G wireless network to realize remote monitoring and management. The range of the radar water level sensor is 0.5~30 meters, the accuracy is ±3mm, and the output signal is 4~20mA current signal or RS485 digital signal.

The radar water level sensor emits electromagnetic wave pulses from the antenna, which are reflected back when they meet the water surface. The antenna receives the reflected waves and records the time difference, thus calculating the distance to the water surface and subtracting the installation height to obtain the water level value. According to the set output signal, the radar water level sensor converts the water level value into 4~20mA current signal or RS485 digital signal, and sends it to the data acquisition instrument or monitoring center.

Good results have been obtained by using radar water level sensor in this project. The radar water level sensor can work normally under bad weather conditions, and is not affected by rain, snow, wind, sand, haze, etc., nor is it interfered by water surface fluctuations and floating objects. The radar water level sensor can accurately measure the millimeter level change, which meets the high precision requirement of reservoir management. The radar water level sensor is easy to install and simply needs to be fixed above the bridge, without wiring or installing other equipment in the water. The data transmission of the radar water level sensor is flexible, and the data can be transmitted to the remote monitoring center or mobile terminal through wired or wireless means to achieve remote monitoring and management.

This paper introduces the method and application of radar water level sensor in reservoir, and gives a practical application example. It can be seen from this paper that radar water level sensor is an advanced, reliable and efficient water level measuring instrument, which is suitable for all kinds of complicated hydrological environment. In the future, radar water level sensors will play a greater role in reservoir management and contribute to the development of water conservancy.
