The Punjab Problem: Why “Estimated” Allocation is a Financial Disaster

Pakistan’s Punjab province operates one of the world’s largest contiguous irrigation networks—over 58,000 kilometers of canals feeding 14 million hectares of farmland. For decades, water distribution at diversion gates has relied on manual staff-gauge readings, a system with a built-in error margin of 15–35%.

In 2025 and 2026, two pressures converged to make this approach unsustainable. The engineering roadblock? Traditional submerged sensors—ultrasonic Doppler meters, pressure transducers, and physical flumes—fail within weeks in the high-silt Indus River. Silt buries the sensors, algae fouls the transducers, and debris snaps the mounting brackets during flood releases.

The Hardware: Non-Contact Dual-Radar Architecture
